Can anybody find me a FAKE IWATA airbrush?

Leakyvalve

Mac-Valve Maestro!
I was watching a Coast Airbrush vid ( I have no idea how to link it here if it even can be ), but about 6 minutes in he goes on and on about how Coast gets all these fake Iwatas in and they are so good on the outside Coast can't even tell, and they put all the IWATA parts in them to fix the supposed defects, only to eventually discover it's not a real IWATA. And everything is all crooked and poorly machined.

Now I've seen ALOT of Chinese knock offs, and they are ALL OBVIOUS. None I have ever seen say Iwata on them. So just WTF is Dave talking about? Either there is a large industry of Iwata fakes I have never seen posted or ran across in all my years, or Dave is making stuff up so that you buy airbrushes from his company.

I have never seen one... or, should say - that if I did, it was made well enough that even though repeatedly worked on, and with, I could not tell the difference. I'd like to see some photo's of the knock-offs if they are that close on the outside, but crap on the inside.

I have a Fengda airbrush.
Which comes very close. It only weighs 89 grams.

My CM / b weighs 81 grams but that is without a mac.
I think if you come across this one with an Iwata name on it you have to look very carefully.

Oh, I have many brushes that look like an Iwata, but none that have "Iwata" engraved on them, and none that I would confuse with an Iwata beyond just a casual glance...

Knock off are every where these days from Rolex watches to Iwata Airbrushes.
Some sellers will list them as factory seconds as well.

I understand on some things, but I'm "betting" you can't actually find one online and I'm certain you've never seen one with your own eyes.

I did see a POS Badger looking thing labeled as a Cambell Anest Iwata airbrush on Ebay.

As @DaveG says, there are many that look like Iwata but NOBODY has had the juevos to put that name on the side. Also, I would think Coast is the or close to the #1 Distributor of Iwata airbrushes in the US. Are you telling me they can't tell a difference till they are knee deep into an airbrush fix that it ISN'T a legit Iwata?

I don't know how often they come across it.
maybe someone has a broken iwata.
And used imitation parts. To make it.
And then he sells it on ebay.
The buyer has no idea why it is not doing well and sends it to coast.

I think he’s just referring to brushes that look a lot like a Micron for example. But is anybody really fooled by the $35.00 price tag?

They can't just look like an Iwata, they must be so good that they make it to the Coast Airbrush repair desk AND they actually start working on it thinking it's an actual Iwata..... OR Dave is being salesman.

I see what you mean. I’m stumped in that case, unless I have fakes and never knew the difference LOL.

I'm gonna lean real heavy towards that salesman thing ;)

I've also gotten into some very interesting(read entertaining) debates as of late with those that say even though made by the same hands, on the same machines, I shouldn't support Creos GSI - because, they have not been around, and there is no telling if they will be here to support us in the long run. I asked if we don't support them as customers, how do they survive to be around to support us in return? Funny thing is, that to a tee, each person I have had the debate with is either affiliated with a dealer, or has a full on sponsorship .

I've had a few rounds on That too Dave. Thing is.. I love my eclipses. Can't say a bad thing about em.
Would still consider a cm b or sb since no one really makes one.
But Spraygunner has done well with becoming a market leader for creos. And my orders have been handled quickly and importantly shipped FREE.
There is definitely a lot of talk about "knock offs" and such by Dave. But I suppose it's his livelyhood and he may be losing some sales. His company has obviously supported the industry well. I have no real complaints... but I do get turned off by the subtle bashing.
And seeing his personal boat, sandrail etc I can't get too teary eyed.

I belong to a lot of airbrushing groups on Facebook and have noticed that more and more posts are nothing but a big commercial. Hashtag this, Hashtag that...the product could be crap, but they get some for free as long as they put the name out there. I find that with a lot of live feeds too...If I want commercials, I will watch public TV...lol

#support the products that support you! And the banging battle cry.. And I'm over her like... excrement bitches at 3 bucks plus an ounce I'm supporting you pretty damn well.

I also set out to find a counterfeit Iwata, with no luck. The closest I could find in trade dress are the Ginza GP series:

http://fujisupply.com/ginza-airbrush-gun/

They claim to be made in Japan, but that claim is dubious, without a certificate of origin provided by the manufacturer. You can even find replacement nozzles on Amazon. They don't get great reviews, but as we all know, many failures come after misuse or improper cleaning (and yes, I have had issues cause by a lack of AB hygiene.)

Unfortunately, "Iwata" or the design of any of their airbrushes don't appear to be registered with U.S. Customs (looked them up in IPRS), so anyone can import an airbrush that looks like or says Iwata, and they would not be subject to seizure upon entry into the U.S. However, they may be protected in other parts of the world.
