Help on making a RC car look weathered

I've started my next project, a barn find RC car ;)

So I've sanded it down, is there a primer I should use or just layer the base?

The main question here however is, I want the front, skirts and wheel arches to look weathered and full of dirt, grit, grease etc, think like a rally car at the end of a muddy wet stage race.

However, I don't know what paint to look at ways of making it look real and is it possible to get real tiny bits if dirt to stick?

How to deal with clear coating? Will it make it look shiny and dirty?

Thanks all so much you are all amazing

This link is to a website based in the U.K. They stock a good range of paint for models including the Lifecolour brand. I don’t have experience with it myself, but I see a lot of diorama builders using it for mud effects on Tanks and other war machines. Might be an idea.
