Primer selection for aluminium

Hi everyone! Our deam came true and we have finally moved from Russia to Canada! But I'm currently meeting a lot of difficulties while trying to organise my airbrush workspace because of unaccustomed brends and English terminology.

I use Iwata's airbrush and water-based German colors Schmincke.
Now I'm going to paint on an aluminium laptop and I would like to save the original laptop's color on background.
What kind of crystal primer and automotive lacquer would you recommend? I thing everything is going to be fine if I use: scotch brite-> crystal primer -> automotive lacquer -> scotch brite -> airbrushing -> automotive lacquer. What do you think about these steps? I really wish to save the original laptop's background it looks cool.

After a while, I've found a Crystal Clear General Purpose Acrylic Enamel (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B001DKPL14/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_aPv7EbC1MX4DW)
May be it will be better to use just this enamel (I don't know exactly what it is) before drawing?

And what kind of friendly water-color degreaser will be better to use?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Hello! And welcome to Canada! If you are looking for a good water-based solution look at the new UVLS Gloss Clear It's a great choice for your application. Please feel free to reach out to me.

Here is some information on the product
UVLS clears are water-based, architectural-grade clears made for interior and exterior applications. UVLS Clears are made with an acrylic – aliphatic polyurethane resin which is exceptionally durable. Use as adhesive primer direct to metal, plastic, glass, mirror and other difficult to paint substrates. The Key to using this product as an adhesion promoter is letting it cure ( 48 hours.) before artwork.

You can also find it here on my website along with a link to the technical data sheets for more application/usage https://www.mapleairbrushsupplies.c...clear-coats/products/createx-uvls-gloss-clear

Congrats on the move! Donna has beaten me to it. I would recommend the 4050 UVLS clear. It can be used as a Primer and a Top Coat as well as a carrier for their Candy colours. There shouldn’t be any reaction with the Schminke and having used it for the first time a couple days ago, i can say that it’s pretty forgiving and really nice to spray.

Hi everyone! Our dream came true and we have finally moved from Russia to Canada! But I'm currently meeting a lot of difficulties while trying to organize my airbrush workspace because of unaccustomed brands and English terminology.

Welcome to Canada. :) I don't have any other suggestions for what to do with your project. Donna and Maple Airbrush supplies are fantastic and in Canada. I just wanted to welcome you to the country. I'm glad you were able to make your dream come true.

What part of the country are you in? Most people when they come here move to Vancouver or Toronto, but there is so much more to the country.

Glad you are here.

Gordon

Thank you so much! This is exactly what I need.

Could you recommend any water-color friendly degreaser for this project?

Thanks Gordon!:)
I'm currently in Toronto, it looks like there is a great market to start some interesting projects. Due to the current situation, I can't even take a test to get the local driving license. Can't wait to get it, buy a car and start discovering the country!
