Hi! I am a Plastic hoarder

Hi, my name is Miniplamo and I am a Plastic hoarder.

I have a fair plastic models and miniatures (GW) stash, taking forever to build, let alone paint them.
As a fan of Falcon 4.0, I tend to hoard Fighter planes alongside Sci-Fi kits.
I finally started airbrushing and still fighting with 0.3mm AB clogs.

My 0.3mm HP-CH is making bubbles as soon as a clog starts. So I tend to use more thinner now and still mostly use my 0.5mm PS266.

I love the PS270 threads here. Cheers for these.
It might be my next AB unless I cave in for the PS770/771, not that it will make me a better painter.

Welcome aboard! Aside from doing illustration with my airbrush, I too am a GW fan. I play 40k, and love building and painting the models. The last year I've used my airbrush mostly for Adeptus Titanicus, but most of my other armies are also painted with my micron. I'm looking forward to the new Indominus set when I free up the cash for it.

Some advice for minis and the HP-CH... many, many very light coats of over reduced paint. It not just keeps the airbrush clog free, it keeps the detail on the minis.

Bubbling in the cup is usually a sign that something in the air passages isn't quite right. Either the nozzle has a micro crack in it letting air back up the paint channel, is not meeting the fluid head quite right, and needs sealing with beeswax or chapstick, or in some cases, the air cap that goes over the nozzle is too far back and obstructing some of the air meant to pass over the needle.

My advice would be to consider using beeswax to seal your threads, and thinning the paint quite a bit more, and painting at a lower pressure.

I use my 0.3 eclipse mostly for base coats on minis, and then for any detail I switch over to my micron (which is much more stubborn about paint thickness), but thin down to almost colored water, and spray at a very low 5 to 7 psi. I have an HP-CH too and they are a great brush, but I do prefer my micron.

Also, I gave up on the GW and Citadel paints. They just don't play nice with airbrushes in my experience. They dry so fast on your tip, that you spend more time wiping your tip than painting. I moved to mixing the same colors with Createx or Golden, and making my own washes to bring out detail.

Citadel is great for traditional brushing, but clogs super easy with an airbrush.

That being said, if you get some liquitex flow improver, mix it like 1 part to 20 parts water in a squeeze bottle, add a small touch of glass cleaner, add a drop of glycerin to it, and mix well... you have something that can make Citadel workable through an airbrush. It stops it from drying so fast on the nozzle.

Love to see your work!

Welcome to the forum. I have loads of WH, 40k and much older lead figures I've had for many years. Never got round to painting them so they're in boxes for when i'm ready. Might be time to start digging them out.

Break out those minis @jord001 . The Tyranid scourge grows ever closer to the hive worlds of the Empire. We must take a stand and do our part!

Glory to the Emperor!

:D

Might be worth having a dedicated section on the forum to modelers and war gamers. :)

Thank you for the warm welcome, especially @Kim McCann for great advices.

I have Beeswax on order. I didn't know the Air cap could be too far back.
Upon inspection with a magnifier, I didn't see any damage.

I now use AB paints after playing around with Liquitex Soft Body and AB thinner.

Made to order for Indomitus are ending up soon. I am coming back to Kill Team and 40k with it and a Dark Eldar box.
I have a Space Wolves army from Rogue Trader and v2 days. Also an Epic scale Eldar one.

Welcome Miniplamo! Glad to have you as part of our community.

I'm totally ignorant to all things 'gamer/modeller' so I've no clue as to what you are saying with the first part of you post.

As for the 2nd part, well you can slap me on the wrist for being slow to get that section up and running. I did have great intentions before covid hit, yes I said the "C" word, it gets blamed for everything else so why not use it as my excuse too.
I've just finished work but give me a few hours and we'll see if I can wave my magic wand :)

WELOME @Miniplamo it sounds like you've already got a friend in Kim to help you on your journey. If you put your location in your profile then people can help out with local suppliers if you ever get stuck (just a country and general area is sufficient)

I’m an ex GW player. I had a set of 40k when I was a kid and really enjoyed painting the miniatures. I haven’t dug any out to try with the airbrush yet, but I know I have several unpainted sets that could be fun to do.

Welcome home.
While the PS 770/771 may not make you a better painter it will make you a better painter due to it will boost your fine line control faster.
At least that is what Gerald Mendez feels too.
When I started out I had a .3 and did ok but could not pull a fine line to save my soul, So I bought a Micron( the PS770 wasn't out yet) but right after I started using it I was able to do a whole lot more then I ever could with my .3 set up. Now I can pull fine lines even with a .5 .
