Connecting Iwata LPH80 to Fuji Q4 Compressor

I have a Fuji Q4 HVLP Compressor with a 9600-G-XPC spray gun. it works great for cabinets etc. I've recently acquired an Iwata LPH-80 mini spray gun. I can use this with my shop compressor. However, I'm wondering if there is a way I can connect it to the Q4 turbine 'compressor'. The connector appears to be some type of 1/2 in. connection, but I can't find anything exactly like it online.

I'm thinking the Iwata would be great for smaller jobs (guitars, bows, etc) and wonder if anyone has experience using it with an Fuji turbine.

thanks
Gordon

LPH80 will have a 1/4 bsp thread in the gun handle so uses standard 1/4 quick disconnect fittings, What is on the end of the turbine compressor hose, does it have a quick disconnect ? If its 1/2 inch then a simple 1/2 to 1/4 reducer should suffice. just make sure you get the right ends ie: male or female..

That's kind of what I was hoping. It is a 1/2 in quick connect, but it looks a little different than other quick connects I was able to look up online. If you look at the picture in the top post, it doesn't have the smaller ring at the end of the connector like other 1/2 quick connects have. I was wondering if anyone has tried a third party spray-gun with a fuji turbine using a normal 1/2 in. connector? if so, then, as you said, a simple 1/2 to 1/4 reducer should work.

If you can buy the male part (gun end) of the qc then you should be able to attach it to the LPH with a thread adapter.

I thought so too. I just haven't been able to find one that matches the one on the gun. If all else fails, I'm going to take the hose in to the local shop and see if a normal 1/2 air QC will fit.

I suppose there a possibility that if you cant get one to match , you could get a new hose end fitting and qc's to match it in the correct sizes for the 2 guns

According to the manual for that gun, the air connection is 1/4 NPS. After a little google-fu, it appears NPS threads are the same size and pitch as NPT threads. The difference being that American NPT threads are tapered, where the NPS threads are not.

That said, 1/4" NPT is a standard plumbing thread (at least, in North America). It's the same thread used for most commonly found full sized air compressor fittings. You should be able to adapt it fairly easily.

Also, don't get hung up on the actual physical measurements. 1/4" NPT gets it's size from the inside diameter of the pipe, so the outside measurement is closer to 1/2". It can get confusing. :)

Thanks guys. I never thought of just replacing all the fittings if I can't find one that will fit for the Iwata. I'll let you know what I find out. It may be a while however, we are just going into another significant lockdown, so I won't be leaving the house for a few weeks, at least not for hobby stuff.

Bad news about the lock down, good news though, you may be able to get some painting done or at the very least you can think about your next paint pal, maybe get a few mapped out so you can just jump in and start painting :)
