My name is Bill, user name Joe Strat. I'm a guitarist and amateur Luthier. I originally took up Air Briushing w.hen I bought a used Motorcycle and wanted to paint it with Live Flames. My wife bought me a of Air Brushes from Air Brush City over a decade ago. They are not the top of the line brushes but perfect for me. Well I also purchased from TCP Global a kit of Purple Flame paints from their Custom Shop line. Well about ten years pasted and I still had the paints unopened but no longer the Motorcycle. I am currently building a double neck lapsteel guitar. Well I decided seeing I have the paint I would put the Purple Flames of the guitar. All of this is just a hobby for me. I just turned 70 on the 23rd of January. I am also a retired High School Teacher, taught Mathematics and Computer Technology. Not much more to say, except I'm also a Papa to Two wonderful Boxers and one grumpy MinPin. Thanks for having me aboard.

Welcome Bill! If you’d care to post any photos of where you’ve gotten to with the guitar we’d love to see them. Painted or not, I’m a sucker for guitars of all kinds.

Welcome to the forum Bill. I have built MANY cigar box 3 string guitars and a couple of single neck lap steels. I do play the pedal steel ( own 3 at this time ) .
I've been contemplating of building a double neck lap steel myself.
Yours is looking very good so far.

What tunings are you going to set it up with?? Also where in this Covid world do you hang your hat??

Hello Richard, I live in West Central Florida, Home of the Stanley Cup winning Lightning, World Series Rays and soon to be Super Bowl Champion Buccaneers. I am not sure of the tuning yet, I was thinking C6 and possible Open D.

Thanks Bill. I like to hear C6 but have to get used to which strings to play if doing country music. The pedal steels are set up with Emmons tunings and the laps are set up with E tuning. Either D or E, it makes it easier to play for me.
Also hope the Buc's win .
I used to play in a band but the Covid virus made us quit until it is in better shape. Nowhere to play now. The music industry has taken a huge hit with that.
Look forward to the finish of the double neck. Keep us up to date with that.

Richard

Bill, very nice! Looking forward to seeing your progress.

@RichardH would love to see some of your guitar craftsmanship! I play both acoustic and electric. My favorites are my Gretsch and my mahogany Taylor.

Here are a couple of pic's of my craftsmanship LadyCharlie . Nothing fancy, just make them work for me.

The cigar box guitars are set up with either G, D, G or D,A,D tunings and some are for finger fret playing or with a finger slide.
The lap steel is just a 2x4 setup. Nothing fancy but it does play and sound good.
If you want to see someone good playing one CB guitar check out Seasick Steve on Youtube. He is a very good intertainer and player.

Hope these quick shots show what I like to do in my spare time.
I do have others but these will show a little of my time spent on instruments.

Thanks
Richard

I bet that Taylor sounds sweet. I have an acoustic that is very similar to Taylor. The builder used to work for Taylor. One of my acoustic is a Breedlove which looks and sounds very similar to Taylor.
