Deciding on a subject

How do You all decide on what You are going to paint next if You are painting just for pleasure? I seem to spend all My time on pinterest etc finding stuff to paint but not actually deciding on a subject :)

Like you I trawl Pinterest/Google etc. anything takes my fancy I print it out and add it to my pile of references. I’ve even had inspiration from a tv show/ movie and hunted the www for that image.
When I’m in the mood to paint I’ll go through the pile and see what ‘speaks’ to me on that day.
If you’re not ‘feeling’ what your about to paint it will be hard work.
Sometime there is just an element I want to practise eg: hair, eyes, textures so I’ll find a picture of it that I think is do-able

I do pretty much the same, I've even taken pics of the tv if there's something of interest. Like Jackie said it has to speak to you or you wont be motivated to paint it. It hasn't happened much at all for me lately sadly. I keep trying.

It’s actually the most important decision of all. I got a backlog of 100 visual ideas. I take the time to ask myself if I really will be interested and excited enough to dedicate the hours necessary into the subject. If I am not clear or don’t feel the “fire”, I wait and let it ferment.

I spend hours on Google images looking for something or some idea, or a theme, to paint. I usually see something that I like the look of and find something else and paint it with the look I liked...if that makes any sense? lol
