Howz 'bout a Space Brush?

I agree!! That's unethical! Shame Shame on Iwata! Greedy bastards!

I'm not a lawyer and I don't play one on TV but I would think that if Iwata would have chosen to give Mr Mendez the credit for the creation of this model kit they would have had to pay him something. He would have had a strong legal case if they didn't.

25 cents US funds (other countries denominations will vary), or maybe 10 cents per kit sold would be something, depending on the market which I am not privy to.

IMO a better idea would have been for Iwata to either have purchased the painting outright or paid for the rights to use it. So much for corporate thinking.

To be honest, I am not familiar with Mr Mendez's work. I do not know if he sells his artwork. If he does it seems that the value on his painting has sky-rocketed and hit outer space (pun intended).

IMHO, Gerald Mendez is one of the kindest, humble airbrush artists out there. A real genuine person and talented artist. Check out his website.

Shame on Iwata!

Tough crowed ;). You do realize there is a difference between "inspiration", and "copying", right? Even Gerald is not saying they "copied" his work - and, it was not Iwata. Iwata was an afterthought to the designer of the kit - or, it would not be available without the Iwata name on it.

Yes, I'm aware of copyright law. While it may not be a copyright infringement, very little could be done to remedy it as it's Hong Kong.

Yes, Iwata is an afterthought... in more ways than one. However, it was very poor form not to give credit where credit is truly due. Again, that's my opinion and I think they are unethical. As always, Dave, I respect your opinion.

Just following the logic - there should only be one car, one phone, one TV... the original concept/design, and nothing more ;).

We all know where the idea came from. Had they made the structures more like Gerald's original art, I would be all over them, but they didn't...

Likewise.
My bad!
Can't say much when it comes from the man himself.

Ya know, you'd think there would come a time when I'd realize not to stick my 2 cents in on something I really have no basis on. Nope, full steam ahead into the iceberglol:(.

Well... on a lighter notelol, I rewatched the weathering video again. I also spent some of the day going over the instruction sheet too. Still putting my plan together.

I do have somewhat of a scale model background. There will be a couple firsts for me on this one. I've never weathered anything and I've never done a lighted model.

At least this ship won't be going full steam ahead;).

I had a successful couple of days learning new stuff, or at least making what I know work for me - so, I am really hoping to get some sell-able stuff together before these become scarce. Will still be a week or more before I get to where I need to go.

I'm hoping they don't become scarce. It would be kinda sad if it was a first run and done kit.

On the model forum I'm on, of the few people who responded, the replies were fairly positive:thumbsup:.
