Why are Etac and Trident no longer in Europe?

Hi peeps,
Etac Efx and especially the Marissa Limited Edition line was my go to paint but I can't buy it in the Netherlands anymore. Only the odd place in Europe has Efx which I guess may not restock after their supply is sold out.

Same with Trident although I remember some stocks being sold off 5 years ago before I took my long break.

Does anyone know why they've disappeared? Does it have to do with the pandemic and manufacture/distribution? Or something else?

I still have some left although not all will be usable anymore but I don't want to invest time re-learning how to use them if I can't get more. Infact I've just ordered a trial set of Createx Illustration paints to test out as they seem to be readily available. It's a shame but heyho life moves on eh?
Cheers Mel

Trident are here in Australia, and as far as I'm aware we can still get Etac, I'd have to check with Mick from OzAir.
supplies of everything are hard at the moment, even the grocery shelves are light compared to normal... it may just be a sdistibution issue more than a supply issue

Createx can be a bit fiddly when you start using them, I've rarely found them useable without reduction of some degree but once you learn the idiosyncrasies of it its a good paint to work with.

Thanks JackEb, I figured as much. If you can find out if Etac will be available in the Netherlands again that would be great. Cheers for the tip about reducing CI and it being fiddly. I did order a bottle of 4011 reducer and 4012 comes in the set so I can experiment.

airbrush and paint in the UK sells Etac paints

Cheers Ronald, I did find a shop online selling Etac in the UK which maybe the same one but I am looking to buy in the Netherlands. Shipping isn't as easy as it used used to be from the UK to the Euro zone, although still possible. I'll see how I go with CI. I was just curious why shops weren't generally stocking Etac and Trident anymore in the Euro zone.

Right now Pete is the only one who sells it in Europe and there is no retailer in the Netherlands or the EU zone I did order from him not to long ago and he send me it to me without stating what was in the parcel and without a invoice so I didnt have to pay the extra 21% the EU demands ;)
the webshop is airbrushandpaint.co.uk but I just dropped him a mail to put in my order

Good to know

Lionart still has some bottles. Etac/Trident.
But is no longer a supplier.
You can give him a call. What he has left.
They are no longer on the website.

Thanks Erwin, but I think I'm going to use up what Etac I have and move onto some others that are readily available like Createx Illustartion and Golden. I've ordered some CI and I already have some Golden paints and Mediums

Also look into Schmincke Aerocolour. It's really good stuff. I doubt you will ever have a hard time to find that over there.

Hi AndreZA, good to see your still here. Schminke were the first paints I bought and I didn't get on with them but I could give them another try. You are right they are readily available here even in my local art shops. Has their formula improved since I bought mine 10 years ago? I did see they have a range of Candies now. I can't remember how suitable they are for scratching and erasing, do you know?

I bought my first bottle in 2013 and can not say that I've seen a change in the formula. With a bit of retarder in your water it help with tip dry. Here is a little test I did with it and other paints on some paper samples. https://avwairbrushworks.wordpress.com/2017/05/12/paper-test-for-textures/

Nice tests AndreZA, thanks for that  It actually steers me back towards Com-Art which is another fav paint of mine. I prefer to use 4G board but I also have a Yupo type substrate. I can still buy Com-Art sets in the Netherlands but sadly not the Trans. Base Medium except in small bottles and not the Gloss Varnish although I have seen it in the UK.

I love the Varnish because it sprays easily straight from the bottle but there is no information on the lable about UV protection, if its archival quality so doesn't yellow and if its permanent or removable like Golden Polymer UVLS. I have quite a few Com-Art paints left although I am still sorting through all my paints to see what needs chucking and whats usable. Cheers Mel

I use schminke neutrel grey exclusively, I start with it in every painting and can say they did re vamp that color to make it more erasable and there's less of a green tint to it. I'm not sure of the other colors in the aerocolor line got re vamped though.
I use holbein and grex paint usually, but im in love with schminke neutrel grey!

Hi Mike, thanks for that info, always good to know if paints have been improved.

I bought some Createx Illustration Opaque and Transparent paints plus the Trans Base and 4011 Reducer. I think I'm getting to grips with them but haven't painted for weeks due to personal issues. I hope to get more done this week. Thanks for your input

It's possible that the disappearance of Etac Efx and the Marissa Limited Edition line could be due to a variety of factors, including changes in the market or supply chain disruptions caused by the pandemic. It's also possible that the manufacturer decided to discontinue production of these particular lines.
