Artool Carbon Fiber FX Warpage

Well damn, it is cardboard! I thought it was... I'm going to exchange for a different Mylar template. Then order the ones that you suggested.

I don't know how they make them but maybe it's the top/bottom protection card when they were guillotined??? Poor quality control if it is....

THis was discussed on another board about the FX stencils. They are a special "cardboard" because the details are so fine that mylar will just melt and the detail you can achieve with the paper based stencil was better than mylar. Apparently they aren't meant to last forever under heavy use.

Not sure how I feel about it. THere is a guy in Germany doing very detailed laser cut Mylar based stencil art.

I wonder if some sort of coating would make them last longer?

I think they are making them like that with the paper just so they don't last a long time. It seems nothing is meant to last anymore. Just my opinion. They have to keep turning a profit, so cheaper material that doesn't last as long will make you buy another........ Just like I'm going to have to buy another Gerald Mendez effects stencil less than a year later :(

I showed the Gerald Mendez set to a local stencil maker and he said he can do them in mylar. But it will cost about $45 to do.

There's gotta be something flexible that can seal it without altering the template., hmm. Maybe not.

I want those Gerald Mendez splatter fx.. I have the mini texture fx.. Seamonkey you must have the bigger version of the texture fx. Haven't used my mini texture fx yet (maybe Herb can verify the material) so I'm not sure which material they are made of. I want to switch to a brand that only uses Mylar. Air stick might be a good alternate.

I used these guys once on fleabay
deltaarts | eBay

I usually prefer to use things around the house, and didn't want to pay for expensive stencils, but I wanted some gears cos I couldn't be bothered to cut them out myself. These are from Poland, and I have no idea how they compare to expensive stencils, but was a fraction of the price, worked great, laid flat, didn't warp and cleaned well. I haven't tried any of their other products, but the stencil was great and good value too.

These guys I mentioned before do blank mylar sheets, maybe make your own? Or use the transparent sheets used for overhead projectors, a bit harder to cut as they are thicker but they work.

Give me a place to make an order :) I would only need the smaller sized ones, but I do want them, lol!

I have both the small and the large set, but use the small size way more!! And both are made of some sort of paper board and once you bend them, it's just a short time till they come apart.

I have the smaller set and that was the only complaint I have about them is the material they used to make them. So far I have had no problems with them holding up but I don't like what I read about once they get bent they fall apart. Just have to be super careful not to bend them I guess!!! Not something I want to replace since I already bought it once thinking it would last like a stencil should!! Haaaa!!

I didn't know anyone made stencils out of anything like that, poor business practices. Thanks for the heads up, I will avoid all the ones you guys mentioned.(and double check the fine print on anything else)

Yeah my carbon fiber fx is under a couple heavy blocks of steel right now.. It has worked good for flattening them back out.
