Ok so here's the Idea. We all get to see our fellow 'forumers'?? completed work, sometimes with a step by step etc, so how about the complete screw ups, - certainly newby and seasoned airbrushers may benefit from seeing mistakes as well as the completed piece of art, example...... This is my attempt at "**********" which i now condemme to the bin because "I used the wrong air pressure" etc. get the idea? just a thought..... Iv
There's no such thing as a ********* or mishap LOL..just something ya need to stand back from for awhile and work out a new plan of attack on..One of my favorite sayings in art is that there is no mistakes...just a new feature..but saying that I think there are a lot of that kind of stuff around in videos and step by steps as often some are happy to show such issues and how they got around them and with every issue there is likely 10 different ways to skin that cat so its actually easier sometimes the other way around that those having issues post their work so we can all help in their own need area...
I could create my on website with all the "new features" I've had to ad to my pieces, and I have only done three if you don't count daggers and dot practice.
Part of the process.. everyone has their share. Some have already shared their WIP and how they've corrected mistakes that were made. Anyhow, I try to correct my works so they come out half way decent, even if it didn't come out like I envisioned. Part of the WIP.
I'm a little too self conscious but I do have the pics. I've thrown alot away and shredded others, kinda feel sad when I do. A feeling of defeat I have to get over and on to the next try. Sometimes I'll go and rewatch some instructional dvd's, and find my answer and get inspired.
we all have some with features that aren't in the piece we used to create but that's what makes it our own(also helps if your good at hiding them)
I have to say that I agree with all the above, but I like the idea. Sometimes it helps, seeing others struggle with things that aren't quite there yet! Also, it gives a different perspective on how we each do our own corrections ( or should that be "improvements"?)
For every "decent" , and i use the word loosely, painting i do i prob start and bin 3 attempts, but the best way to learn is to make mistakes and then fix them, even if it takes a couple of go's. I try to look at each one i bin as a lesson and not a failure.
A quote a read the other day. "I've learned so much from my mistakes, I thinking of making some more"
Like it ive read a bit of a book called the talent code and in it it tells you all about how making mistakes looking at them then trying again will teach you more than any reading or video watching, may not be the case for everybody but i find its the best way for me to learn
I think it's pretty rare that a painting is beyond saving. I guess any bin fodder I've offered to the god of crap has been because I got frustrated, or got fed up and moved on. I think a 'how I fixed my mistake, or incorporated a mistake into my design' thing would be good for those who don't have the confidence or knowledge to do it. Some folks include that stuff in their WIPs so maybe in the thread title people could specify they fixed a boo boo. I personally love to see stuff like that, as I find it very reassuring to know I'm not the only one who messes up, and the warts and all WIP's show that things are rarely completely ruined.
the term bite off more then you can chew comes to mind. When I first started airbrushing I watched tons of videos on airbrushing and how easy they made it look. So I would attempt some really detailed paintings to find the reality that it was harder then it looks and I had not developed the skill level needed to save the painting. I did chuck a few in the old wood stove but a lot I saved due to I had a good start on them but to get to the finish line I needed to practice more and learn more. The forums that were around at that time were full of harsh comments (truthful but harsh) so posting up paintings to try and gain help on learning more was something you quickly learned to shy away from doing. Once in a while someone would give you good information , But most times it was not the case. When Mitch was going from forum to forum gaining followers and announced that he was starting a forum to spread the love I thought that is the place I need to be. Maybe with that attitude in play this will be a forum I can learn and grow in my hobby . So I joined up and have been here ever since. So while I do offer help when I can , like most here ,I am still learning and growing. It is a adventure that I have had great fun in taking and watching everyone on this board grow in someway or another.
