First I want to wish everyone the best for the new year. In 2013 I had no time to take up the gun. On its last day during the holidays I was no longer able to resist it and wanted to see if I was still able to do it properly. My friend Geerco van Strien had just cleaned and tuned my Micron SB and my trusted HP-BH. The latter I used most in making this portrait (for some reason it was more predictable and precise...). I roughly cut a piece of drawing paper and used a stray bottle of (I think) Holbein Aeroflash. Freehand airbrush, no masks, some erasing. The white hairs were made by spraying their surroundings, a tip I got from one of Alberto's students Luca Roccaforte. Ultra low airpressure (just enough to push the paint out) mix ratio paint : water = 1 : 10, no additives. Traced with my light table. Tip: If you visit my blog, you can do the following: If you click on one of the images, Blogspot's lightbox opens, which allows you to use your mouse's scroll wheel to shift through the various stages and observe the progress in a more clear way. Hope to have time to do some more work on it in the new year. If so I'll post progress here.

HEY IGNIS!!! my old friend, am I glad to see you back mate, and I really mean that, we have all missed you, and I had feared the worst, so it's great to know your ok, I knew 2014 was going to be a great year, yesterday I got a great surprise form Visual Realm as as soon as I woke up, now today a great surprise from you as soon as I wake up, hell now I can't wait to see what's coming tomorrow, lol

The painting looks stunning as ever, and the fact you are always willing to try different techniques just shows the respect you have for other artists.

If your short of time to hang around with us, please drop us a line now and again just so we know your doing fine.

Thanks guys for the kind comments. Necessarily been involved in too much digital assignments (InDesign - DTP and Rhinoceros - 3D), but I guess the analog arts remain the most rewarding of all.

One small step forward. The way I work, requires a lot of time, the detailed spraying, working in many layers, not using masks of any sort etc. Not suited for commercial work at all. This is the progress after 2 hours airbrushing this evening.

    Very nice work!
I prefer to work freehand as well. I've only ever used hand stenciling and occasionally french curves for tight areas. I'd like to get to the level where I can do it all 100% freehand, though.

I love the skin texture in this.
