I know I can paint a male lion when I go monochrome but in color it is a different ball game to me I did it once and I didnt like the way it turned out so I trashed it , that was 3 years ago so it is time to give that cat an other go

You know what Hemingway said: “The first draft of anything is excrement”. It takes courage to scrap work that was invested before, but it can result in an evolutionary outcome.

I only discussed today how our advancement comes usually at the cost of failure, (so really failure is king!)

we all learn from the mistakes we make mine was trying to run again before I could crawl and I just needed more time to get used to my changed sight and color perception and that is the reason I started with golden ocher a color that is hard for me to see but I know what it will do as a base for the next colors and I need it for details and color variations in the lions fur

You could always try and use sepia to creat some fur/eyes structures, then use a transparent ocher/sienna/umber to sit over the sepia, my only concern when using a “base” colour is that you will need to compensate for it throughout your piece, but I also understand that there are many ways to paint a picture! Always happy to help if you want advice

Cheers I used sepia for the dark parts the manes are leaning towards orange and yellow and I always use a base color sometimes that is a opaque color but mostly a semi opaque depending on what I want to paint I start looking for the colors that suit the subject best and will give me the base I want

well what can I say : I wasnt paying attention and didnt read the label on the paint bottle the result : a green color shift and major repair work is in order for now
what happend was this I know golden ocher wont give me any color shift when I use it over burnt umber trouble is the color in the bottle looks the same as sepia smoke and you guessed it I picked up sepia smoke in stead of burnt umber to get some darker values and I didnt notice it
I already started repairing but I think you can still see some green shift so I might as well show you guys :D

The green tones are gone, but I didn’t mind them - looked like Munch got hold of an airbrush, very expressionistic! Now you’ve got rid of the green, it still has a painterly feel to it and it looks very interesting!
