As promised I'm posting a SBS on the portrait I had the privilege to learn how paint during the Master Portrait Class at Foxy Studios in Katwijk, Netherlands on Oct 10-14 2014. It will not be a detailed SBS as I don't want to hand over all the techniques I payed quite a lot of money to learn. I'm leaving the goodies out of the SBS and I hope this will trigger some of you to take the step and participate in a class, you will never regret if you do. I hope that's ok with all of you guys. Equipment: Airbrush: Iwata Custom Micron CM-C+ V2 - 0,23mm. Colors: E'TAC Marissa FX Board: Schoellershammer G4, 35 x 50 cm Watercolor pencils: Faber & Castell Erasers: lots of various, electric, pencils, fiberglass et.c. Textures: Marissa Texture Kit #1 + more Different shields and other stuff. Shitloads of nice music from Carlo's playlist. First the sketch was transferred to the board with carbon paper. Then the blue back drop back ground was painted with an opaque blue premixed color. Putting in as much details as possible helps a lot later in the process. Then the darkest parts of the painting where sprayed thru a cut out copy of the reference photo. Shapes started to put in place with a transparent grey carefully keeping track of the values and transitions. Skin and iris textures are also done in this first step with the help of various erasers, stencils and airbrush techniques. Shaping the face continues with various transparent colors carefully studying the color temperature of the face. Different techniques where used to spray the sharp edges, bouncing technique and direct spraying depending on the amount of color wanted. Mostly I used a Pharao Shield that contains most of the shapes in a face. More subtle skin textures added with every layer. Eye lashes started to form with pieces of wire used as stencil. The darkest parts of the blond hair sprayed thru a cut out paper stencil. And more shapes around the girls left eye, plus more textures. Close ups of the previous step. Final step of the facial shapes made with transparent colors carefully and constantly monitoring the highlights, values and transitions. Next step is the lips. Changing to opaque premixed colors and torn bits of paper. I'm freehanding the dark textures with my airbrush. Erasers also used for creating the highlight textures. My lipgloss highlights were a bit off.. but it's easy corrected. Close up of the eyes with shapes and textures finished.
