Figured I'd post something that may help others when purchasing Golden High Flow paints

Here is an example of 5 drops of Titanium White with one drop of Pthalo Blue

Left side is non transparent and the right is transparent. There is a major difference in value.

At the bottom, I sprayed each with no white at around the same value with a black line underneath to show opacity.

Seeing what I have, I will not buy the Transparent versions in the future because the difference looks only to be Pigment Load, not that one is opaque and the other transparent.
The normal color is transparent enough for airbrush illustration purposes.

Note, some paint pigments are more opaque than others, but not really enough that I would buy the Transparent bottles for what I do. [IMG]

I use golden as well. As far as I know, the only Phthalo Blue in their line is #8559 - Transparent Phthalo Blue. They have #8537, which is Phthalo Blue (Green Shade), but it is not the same color. It is a much darker because the the actual pigment is much darker in color. Are you comparing 8537 to 8559? If so, you should probably be aware that the darkness you are seeing is not related to pigment load, they are very different colors. There is a heavy green cast to 8537 which may not be what you want when you go to mix colors.

It might be absolutely fine for your use however.

If I'm missing another color that I don't know about, I'd be delighted to know what it is. An opaque Phthalo Blue that didn't have a green cast to it would be very useful to me.

They are both Pthalo Blue (Green Shade)
There is a Transparent and one that is not. [IMG]

Cool. Those aren't currently listed on their onlibe catalog. Can I ask where you got them so I can order the opaque?

Thanks! I'll order from Blicks. I'm in Vancouver Canada, just a short drive from seattle.

If you want to spend more money, most of the primary and secondary colors in the transparent line are also in the non transparent.
    Pthalo Green (Blue Shade)
    Napthol Red Light
    Hansa Yellow Medium

There are more as well, but they are all surely stronger when sprayed.

When I started I purchased a huge container of white and carbon black... have hardly used them... have gone through a huge container of shading grey... :)

I find the white tip dries easy. I must try with it some more reducing colours.

I mix a lot of opaques using white. I bought 4oz bottles and have nearly every color. I can't say the tip dry with opaques is any worse than Createx Illustration (not that it's a good barometer ).

Yes, I think that is a fair observation... :) I'll try that with the white.

I love there shading grey just due to how I can build the color. But the local art shop carries every color Golden has not only in the high flow but also in the fluid colors so what few colors I can't get in high flow I get in fluid and reduce it.
