My name is Brian but mostly go by “Indy”. I’m from the va beach area and have be painting and drawing basically my whole life. I got really heavy into graffiti and pop art style stuff when I was a teenager, a lot of that having to do with the fact that I am colorblind. Working in super bright colors and with a lot of hard edges and contrast felt more natural to me. Due to moving from my parents house and into my own apartment I had to stray away from rattle can stuff and started using Posca paint pens a few years back. I’ve played hockey almost my entire life as well and just recently graduated, ending my college career. In an effort to stay close to the greatest game in the world I bought my first airbrush(sadly a harbor freight brush) and started noodling around painting goalie masks about a year ago. Because they’re pretty pricey I’ve been painting mostly used masks or street hockey masks just to get a little proof of concept “portfolio” together. I’m hoping to eventually use my connections in our local junior and college hockey communities to start doing some commissioned masks. It has definitely been a ton of trial and error learning the do’s and the don’t ever do that again’s haha but has been way worth it just seeing my work progress.

Indy is my last name shortened. Definitely tons of military here. Played hockey with a couple of kids that are team guys now. My grandfather was also a ranger during WWII. The mask that I’m just putting the final touches on before clear coat is of the school I played for. For this one I wanted to go with a simplified almost retro look. One thing I’ve been wavering on is whether or not to put a drop shadow of some sort in the silver on the chin piece and top. Any tips or critique is more than welcome. 69C68396-61C9-470C-ADDC-184F0838DA94.jpeg 26778A15-33CF-457E-8961-90540998575B.jpeg 148BA06A-A50B-4485-A81D-D388240EA31B.jpeg 63F9C1BF-0A19-4660-99B7-112813F3576E.jpeg CA12A08C-84B5-477C-86F4-2EBB85733F56.jpeg

Plus using that tin of chew to balance that helmet is a thumb up in my book .

Welcome! One suggestion regarding the helmet pics you posted... In the pic that shows the back with the white lion silhouette at the bottom, there's some wicked paint build up on those edges that will require a lot of clear to bury. Work in light layers when building up color to avoid this in the future, or paint the white logo over the blue. Gravity is not your friend when layering wet coats of paint along tape edges. Nice work overall though!

Thanks so much for the advice and compliment. Unfortunately when I did the lion the first time, I had a bit of a paint peel issue and then upon fixing it i went a bit overboard. I actually did the backplate a few months before the mask was completed so I tried best to remedy that issue along the way. You will be pleased to know that was able to very tediously sand the edges down to be flush. Looking at the picture it does seem white but its actually wicked aluminum but at the time I also was being a little cheap and tried to use autoborne white instead of the logical silver haha. When I finally decide to buy silver sealer it was like a breath of fresh air though, way better coverage and the aluminum was much brighter and reflective. I'm so glad I stumble across this awesome ass community here, everyone has been beyond helpful and super welcoming!
