I dont think there is an 'official' guide John,

Most of the members have used forums prior so they have a good idea how it all works,

    However.....
what do you want to know ? we can build a knowledge base here.
I'm sure the mod squad will be more than happy to answer any and all questions (but we might move the thread to the introduction section. )

I do not think I was as clear about my questions as I thought I was. I wanted to know for example some of the text on the forum titles are orange some are not . What is the reason for that ?
What do the orange asterisks mean ?
    Things like that.

If you are querying why your screen sometimes looks like this
some in Orange and some not, then its just that you have read one of the threads, hit that 'back' button on your web browser so its returned you to where you were and the forum is semi intellegent and 'unhighlights' the forum you have read - Lee's molds in the case below.
If you hit refresh the page then the ones you've read will disappear.

as for orange asterisks i dont ever remember seeing them. Can you point me to where you normally see them, maybe i'm so use to seeing them i no longer do.

No, but I'm sure Malky can provide a guide to herding sheeps, similar principal but cats can jump higher

JackEb Thank you for your explanation of the orange highlights.
The orange asterisks I was referring to appear when you click on the alert flag on the top right of the screen.

    Ahh!!
Never noticed them before lol Hidden in plain sight :D

I suspect it shows who ever the alert is from is actually online....
I’ll test that theory later unless @Mr.Micron or @markjthomson can elaborate

@John V The asterisk appears next to "like" and "quote alerts" under the flag at the top right of the page, if the flag is black there is no new content, if it's red that means there is new content, if you click when it's red it will show all new likes or quotes on your posts with an asterisk next to them, those with no asterisk are content you've already seen, if you click on the "new posts" tab on the top of the page only unread posts will show, if you click on "recent activity" all content is revealed with the most recent event at the top even if you've read it already, the search tab under "mark forums as read" allows you to find older content using key words without having to sift through threads dating back six years.

    Hope this helps:)
