Hello all

Karl Becker

Mac-Valve Maestro!
Warm greetings from frosty Chicago!

I am a total newb, but have diligently earned my airbrushing degree from the University of Yotube (as my wife likes to call it). I'm still working on the fundamentals, but have spent a fair bit of time trying to figure out what to do/not do. The right hardware, what paint reductions, etc.

I come to you as a blank canvas, looking forward to learning. Take mercy on me, as I might ask a lot of stupid questions.

Welcome from Australia We specialise in blank canvases and stupid questions :)

There are no such things as stupid questions, we've pretty much had them all anyway but always happy to get you on the right track.

Welcome aboard from NY, Karl! Lots of people here to offer advice. There really aren’t any stupid questions (except the ones you don’t ask)! Getting paint reductions and pretty much everything else requires practice, practice, and more practice.
Be safe and have fun. :)

Welcome Home Karl
Picking one paint brand and learning it from how it works straight out the bottle in all the airbrushes you have and how to reduce it per airbrush needle/nozzle size makes learning to airbrush a lot less of a headache.
Practice is another main key. Setting aside even 30 minutes a day to work on dots, dagger stroke and fades aids in building muscle memory .
So what airbrushe or brushes did you pick?
What paint are you using?
and what is your goal with airbrushing ....IE models, canvas , cars and bike?

Thanks Folks!

I started with a cheap Master Airbrush kit and the paint that came with it. The compressor works well, but it became clear pretty quickly that the $20 brush it came with was not very high quality. After spending enough time with it to realize I wanted to stick with the hobby, I picked up a Neo CN and some Createx Airbrush Colors. Both have performed well, but the bug to experiment with new projects kept getting worse. I recently bought some Createx Wicked paint and am very happy with it. I'm also planning on having a go with some of the Illustration colors soon. Oh, and my new H&S Infinity CR Plus should be arriving today, which I am very excited about! :)

As for my goal, I made the initial purchase 3 months ago with the intent of using it for models, but I have yet to paint one. I have been mostly practicing by trying to recreate various projects and techniques I have seen demonstrated on Youtube. I guess my goal is creating on canvas, but I suspect that will expand into other areas assuming I become any good at it.

Thanks again for the welcome!

Welcome aboard from the UK. I love Wicked, and it's versatility for almost any surface. Make sure you use the proper reducer and over reduce, and nothing it can't do. As you are discovering, everything soon starts to look like a canvas lol.
