I'm Thom and I'm new to airbrushing. I'm open to taking the time to learn the basics thoroughly if someone can point me in the right direction for instruction. I'm not a natural art talent but I know I can eventually create something of value.

    Welcome from Australia :)
Head to the top of the page here and sign up (it’s a separate site so you’ll have to register there too)
There are heaps of tips, free downloads to exercise sheets, beginner projects (eye, Cameron Diaz , leopard) to get you started. Yes, you’ll think ‘I can’t do them’ but you can... just take your time and they utilize all the basics (just like all art works)
When you finish it, date it and then come back and redo it in a year- you’ll be amazed at your progress and you’ll see that your lines are thinner and crisper, your blends are more subtle
I had no art experience at all and everything I’ve learnt I learnt here. There’s hope for anyone that is keen to learn and willing to listen to all the advice, tips and tricks that are provided

Welcome aboard from a former northerner. I wasn’t too far from ya. (An hour south of Erie,Pa.)
The best advice I can give you just starting out is exactly what Jack had said. Sign up on the other site and go through all tutorials. And the best advice is practice. And when you’re done practicing go ahead and practice some more. I always set aside at least an hour a day doing lines and dots.
And of course if you have any trouble or questions post them up on here.
Most of all just have fun with it.

Welcome aboard Thom. Glad to have you as part of our community. The others have pointed you towards the Airbrush Tutor site, it’s definitely a good move to check out some of the exercises and give it a whirl.

Thank you for your advice Jack and most of all thank you for your encouragement. Your thoughts on recording the date of these first attempts is brilliant. I have faith I can get past this intitial stumbling stage and eventually get it. Your kind words are very inspiring.

Hey Nokie, thank you for your response and advice. I can see how a 'training schedule' as you've suggested will move me forward. That's a VERY helpful idea. Sometimes the obvious evades me, but you couldn't be more on the money. I'll begin today!

Hey Kev. Thanks for saying hello! You're right about helpful advice, I was completely surprised to see so many kind remarks and helpful responses when I visited the forum this morning. All I really expected was a 'like' or two. It was just what I needed. Let's keep in tough.

Welcome to the forum from China! The forum folks already shared some good pointers which are certainly useful. The rest is all about practice, practice, practice, and having fun whilst practicing. There are always going to be road blocks, technically, mechanically, and mentally... that's natural, and all part of the fun :)

Thank you Franc, that’s very good advice. I’ve learnt a lot in just the past 24 hours from the advice posted here! Yesterday’s practice session was fun and productive. And you’re correct: it has to be fun practice! Thanks again.

Hi Thom, welcome from the UK. When you try some of those exercises and tutorials don't be shy about posting your efforts here. If they come out great then it's good to have a pat on the back and know you're on the right track. If it's not quite right or you have issues, then you got lucky cos all the guys here can give you pointers to help improve or trouble shoot, literally saving you days of trying to work out why. We all started in that place, so post those pics warts and all.
