Welcome from New Zealand. This is a fun place to learn... practice is key! :) What sort of toys do you have? What got you started in airbrushing...?

Thank you! I mainly run Iwata Eclipse, have a few other airbrushes that are "cheaper" brands and I use a Badger Aspire Pro compressor. I got started in high school using acrylic paints and normal brushes to paint album covers on blue jean jackets. I soon got an airbrush and realized I could do so much more, I've even combined the two. I mostly stayed with painting on fabric for a long time and then did a few projects on helmets, motorcycles (all with the aid of stencils) but now I want to make this a full time gig. I just wonder if it's possible to make a decent living as an airbrush artist?

Welcome home Tony , As for your question on making a living being an airbrush artist depends on the market for an airbrush artist in your area and how much practice time you invest in trying to learn everything you can . But yes you can make a living at airbrushing but as any artist you may not be living high on the hog.

Herb, I suppose that is why we have the term "starving artist" lol My goal is to be able to do custom work on motorcycles, cars, trucks, etc... My area is pretty small and we have a lot of people here that will go buy a vinyl wrap instead of something custom painted. Sometimes it's hard to compete with that.

Welcome from the U.K. Tony. I’m also looking to paint Motorcycles, Helmets and automotive stuff like that. I’m sure your experience painting Album covers will be very helpful and allow you to help others straight away. Looking forward to seeing some of your work posted.

There are a lot here that will say the same, most of us are no longer spring chickens, and many had other financial and emotional commitments to deal with (kids/bills etc etc) but now the kids are out of the house and the bills have eased, the adults now have time and money to spare.
Some have even just started as they are now retired and have time to do what they want.
Some even use it as therapy "my Dr said to find a hobby while I recuperate"

It doesnt matter why or when you start, let the journey begin, just take one small step at a time.

We're here to help when you need it and to laugh when you wobble and fall over, it reminds us of when we face planted into the easel screaming 'I cant do this" !! lol
