I have only had my HP-CS for a few months, and the chrome plating in the bottom of the cup has worn away (down to the brass). Is this common, or should I get ahold of Iwata warranty?

Very common, and normal. Due to the nature of plating, electric current does not flow well into a deep recess, so the plating can be quite thin in the cup bottom. Zero issue there... Now, if the plating elsewhere on the brush shows signs of wear through, that is another story.

Both my brushes have been the same for sometime. As Dave mentioned, it’s just kind of the way it is. Nothing to worry about, check out Dru Bair’s early Micron. That thing is almost entirely brass now and it paints just fine.
Yes it is common. When they dip it in the chrome plating that seems to be the thinnest spot. Using cleaners with ammonia in them seem to wear it even faster. It should be just fine.
