Greetings and Happy New Year everyone!

I'm feeling much better after a couple of weeks of recovery time and I want to spray some paint for practice. I have my glass surface but I am thinking about using a sketch pad of some kind so I thought I would ask all of you experts on what would work best. I am looking for something in the 11x14 inch size or maybe slightly larger if that helps.

It has taken me a while to get some of my energy back after two procedures in a row but I have been released from my doctor/surgeon's care so it is time to get back into the game.:D

I am learning how to spray on Yupo, quite an interesting experience. :D Yupo is a paper, well not quite it's a plastic. Well, not quite. Well, it's a synthetic paper. Oh wait, what kinda sorcery is this?!

I use yupo and posterboard. Posterboard is cheap and easy to cut to any size. and I dont feel bad throwing it away when I mess up lol

Thanks guys. Yupo sounds good but is a bit pricey for practice as I see it. Unless it can be cleaned and reused. I have some posterboard so I guess I will use it to start with. I was kind of thinking of using some kind of sketch pad so that I could make notes on it and be able to see my progress later on.

Vinyl foil? Do you mean vinyl like for signmaking? I have plenty of that on hand.

And you haven’t tried painting on it yet ? we’ll blame it on you surgeries this time, but from now on everything should be viewed as a possible canvas.
As for taking notes on poster board, head to the stationary section of the dollar shop and pick up a set of gel pens (target market of Disney Princesses) the sets have a wide range of colors in each set so you can take notes on any color board.
Or get a black and a white fine liner marker from Staples if you want a better quality.

My wife gave me a solid "NO" on painting the cat. I would have probably used food coloring if I had done it. :D

I wouldn't have been much help anyway.

I have heard a lot of good things about Yupo and Lana Vanguard, but neither are cheap. Dru Blair even has his own line of paper.

If you don't want to risk another hospital stay, I would avoid painting the cat. :D

If you are simply looking to chronicle your work, poster board, a hole punch, and a 3 ring binder would work just fine.

Thanks for the suggestion to use the binder. Yeah, it did occur to me that trying to hold the cat while pointing a stream of hissing air in her direction could be hazardous to my health. Not to mention the crop of knots that would appear on my head from my wife.

Yupo and Lana Vanguard paper. Are not cheap .
But if you are not going to scratch / erase them. Can you easily reuse them.
Clean with some (4012) / IPA / glass cleaner. and start over.
That is also possible with Clay Board, but then you have to be more careful.
For canvas / MDF / wood wipe off the dark parts, a new layer of gesso / primer and you can start again.

Practice on what you want to paint. If you practice on paper and want to do metal, you will need to adapt again. If you want to do the scratch and erase method, you need to work on stuff that will allow that. the same goes for the paint you are using. If you are just gonna fool around with dots, line blends, then printer paper is fine.
