So, really hope this comes out okay. The buyer happens to love mermaids and sees them as magical free spirited creatures of wonder and fascination. To exaggerate the essence of freedom I chose to use the broken chains and shackle.(I normally receive artistic license in most of my commissions) I'm using my iwata eclipse hp-cs and hairy brushes. Paints are wicked and comart airbrush paints along with some apple barrel black and Americana paints.

So far I have most of what's going to be done drawn up on a 16 inch by 20 inch gesso cotton canvas. (I don't really like airbrushing canvas very much...grrr lol)
I've started loading the sky with some heavily reduced apple barrel black reduced with createx high performance reducer 20171118_211904.jpg

20171119_174512.jpg Next I used a make up sponge and some pink and purple Americana paints and made the planet. I made a quick stencil out of some large tracing paper to block off most of the mermaid and sky from getting alot of paint onto it. I layered the purple pretry much over the whole planet and started dabbing the lighter pink throughout and then used a crinkled magazine sheet to get the rest of the effect that's shown (rattle can spray art trick)

I then used com comart white opaque reduced with some createx high performance reducer to map in some awesome nebulae whisps coming off the planet. Before anyone zooms in real close and says something about the spider splatters, they are meant to be there. I think they add another level of awesome to a space scene when used correctly. I then made a light purple/pink transparent mix to add color to the whisps. 2 drops wicked white, 3 drops wicked red, 1 drop wicked blue and alot..alot of high performance reducer. I knew the white would add opacity and didn't want to muddy up too much of the dark blackness of my space but enough color to transform the white to something much better. After layering lots of it into there I mixed up 4 drops 4030 intercoat, 1 drop caribe blue candy and about 10 drops high performance reducer and painted the tails and misted toward the planet but not too much. Liked the way they looked when I tested them on a sheet of paper

Oh yeah, and I almost forgot. Once it dried I dipped a toothbrush into some wicked white unreduced paint and flicked some stars onto the night sky. You can pull back on the airbrush without pushing for air and then push for air while not pulling for paint and it will spit it out like that too, but the toothbrush is WAY faster and easier

Last for tonight's fun I laid down the base color for the top of the ocean water behind the mermaid. Gonna try a wet on dry technique for the waves and choppy water. Never painted water before so it'll be a fun experience. If not it could ruin what Ives done so far lol. I also sprayed some rustoleum crystal clear topcoat over the space and planet so I could wipe away any paint that might splatter onto it while doing the water or the mermaid. The waterbased paint should reactivate the paints that way. I hope at least

Nice use of some different techniques. It’s looking like a good start.

Haha, that’s the way it goes. Some bad ideas lead to good ones. So does that make the bad ones good? I’m confused lol.

You can use plastic wrap too to get some nice planet shapes and details. Gives it a marble type look. Plus, you can drag it or the magazine papers to give it a planet smear effect

Well one of my worst is a pp I can't show yet. Got halfway through it and blew paint all over it. In a bad enough way I can't recover it..lol cutting me really close to deadline but I also have 3 commission pieces and Christmas gifts to work on too. I'll be sure to post more up, goos or bad once I can. I'd appreciate good and bad reviews. Cause getting better is my goal.. climb the ladder to top shelf artistry lol
