F8078BB9-3F21-4157-BD36-25BD7DE5AD43.jpeg picked up an Epson Pure Colour P405 today, it’s the bottom of the pro level which is a massive step up from my multifunction!
My first test print came out great, will push me harder too! So win win, I will also be able to print my own prints too!
Here’s a pic, P405 on left, multifunction on right (as if you need to be told!!!)

Quite a difference in the photos. But i bet theres a bit of a price difference to justify the quality..

Congrats Paul! The difference is obvious.
What did you use before? How many colours are in both machines? What's the old machine brand is?

I also use Epson. It's six colours system. Though it's multifunction, but prints juicy photos it seems.

Multifunction has 4 colours this has 9, the multi is an office printer not a photo printer, I bought it in a car park!

Besides making "prints" with your printer, what else will you use it for, why will it "push you harder"?

My wife and I picked up a canon pro level large format printer a bit back and it's amazing the difference from the normal printer to the pro printer. Plus it's nice because we can now print up to 13 inch by 19 inch I believe it is...we lucked out that canon was having a sale on then and the camera store was also having a sale on top of that and we saved so much which is what allowed us to get something like that. My wife's best friend is a photographer and had us pick it up for her while we were in that city and the deal was so good we grabbed our own..lol..

Congratulations! The crazy part is throw away a A1 Canon pigment printer when I thought I was over photography, - I didn’t want to spend $900 on ink, - this was before I started painting!

My wife found a reputable guy online that sells oem quality inks that match 100% to the oem canon brand..they can't get their magenta to match close enough so we get the canon oem for that one and refill them ourselves and save a huge amount money that way

Nice, I will look into a CCIS if it doesn’t hurt the printer, ironically it’s only $30 more compared to my multifunction, and I believe I will get a lot more prints from a refill too! God I love toys.....

Ok so let me get this straight...
You find a high quality reference
You print that reference on your new super duper printer
You then proceed to COPY that printed reference to the best of your ability
You then take your finished copy of the printed reference, and photograph it.
You then print out your version/copy of the already printed reference calling it a "PRINT"

So who's the artist and who's the printer, the EPSON or you?

I've been using CCIS since the time of buying this model (EPSON Artisan 730) in 2012, I think.
Just today for the second time had to change bottles with the inks. Over the time the bottom starts leaking, as it just glued. If the system would have glued top, it would last forever. But it's the only downside I ever had with the system. The problem is solved and the printer works again.
CCIS thing is extremely economical, I don't even think about of the inks' price, for they're cheap.
In my country there are two most spread manufacturers: Inksystem and WWM.
From my experience I could say, that WWM inks are better. It seems like the printing head doesn't dry so fast as with Inksystem's ink. I use WWM inks kinda for a half of the year, before this I always used Inksystem. I noticed, with new inks head didn't give any troubles. So, when recently my bottles have shown they're going to leak, I wanted to buy new system from WWM, but they don't sell CCIS for american models (Artisan is for american market), only for european models CCIS are available. It's the reason why my bottles are Inksystem and inks are WWM.

With CCIS one needs to print at least four full sheets per week in order to have not dried inks on the head. Not the biggest inconvenience, I think.

Generally, highly recommend to use CCIS.

    Here's mine:

    1.JPG 2.JPG

Don't place the bottles onto the printer! I've done this only for taking the photos. The thing must stay on one level with the printer.

It's how the "cartridges" look inside:

    3.JPG

    And the prints it makes.
Both done on the same paper. On the left printed in "Photo" mode, on the right is in "Best photo" mode. The only difference I see is in the "Best photo" mode the tones are warmer, no additional detail etc this mode doesn't give.
Sorry for crappy picture, it's taken using flashlight. In reality the prints are exceptional.

Just try also telling the printer to use Matte paper but use your normal paper. Surprising how many variations of the same picture you can get . :)

Guys, do you use plain office paper for the references?o_O

I use only glossy photo paper, then put it inside glossy clear file. Then this combo gives protected print both for colourmatching process (not contaminating by the paint) and ABing the work itself (overspray can be fastly removed from the top clear film of the file and you're ready to go as new). I find glossy paper much better then matte photo paper, the picture is more precise. Details is a must!
