Hello, I'm 38 years old and have been into art all my life but recently discovered airbrushing! I was working on a painting one day, water color, and doing washes and it occurred to me that "there has got to be a faster/better way to do this!". hahaha So here I am, and Iv'e had my Iwata for a few days now, It sure is faster, I don't know why it took me so long to figure this out. I'm still learning the machine, playing with it and practicing control. I suppose my biggest issues right now are hand cramping after a while, and getting the reduction just right. Not enough reduction and the saturation is too sensitive, too much reduction and overspray. Trying to find that sweet spot. Thanks for having a place to learn!

    Welcome from Australia :)

Where do you call home ?

The Airbrush is a fantastic tool as you are discovering. If you are cramping then I’d suggest you are trying to strangle your brush, relax your grip and once you build a bit more confidence with it those cramps will subside.

Which paint are you currently using and at what pressure? With the right paint /reduction and pressure you’ll be creating a whole new world of artworks.

Hi @BrandiB welcome to the forum. We're a nosey lot so I might as well ask the questions now, so what paints are you using, you said you have an iwata what other gear do you have and whereabouts in the world are you? The info helps us give you help if you ever need it. We can advise and tell you where the best deals are etc...
We hope you stay a while, if you need help just post it up.

Welcome aboard the forum from the finger lakes! Lots of people to help with all sorts of things airbrushing related. Don't be afraid to ask questions. The only bad question is the one you don't ask.
    Enjoy your time here:)

"Newbie death grip" LOL. Ya probably.
I am in Canada. I got the Eclipse kit and just messing around with the cheap paint that came with it to practice before I venture into the createx.

is your paint Com-Art or something else? 15-25 psi is a good starting point unless you've got textile paints

Hi there and welcome from the UK. I'm doing the opposite to you, and just getting into watercolour. Fun, but what you can do with an airbrush will get you hooked in no time.

Overspray can be controlled by reducing air pressure, and lowering your height from the surface (which narrows your spray pattern, so you have to balance that against the effect you are going for). Remember the more you reduce, the lower you can go.
Except me, I'm already in the gutter, and can't get any lower lol

Lady @Squishy is right on the airbrush points of pressure and reduction, @BrandiB. However, in my humble opinion, she is far too refined to be in the gutter all by herself. Like most things in life, people do better in groups. We can achieve greater heights together or sink to deeper darker depths.
Can't get any lower, @Squishy? Perhaps you just need some assistance. :evil:lollollol
It's Post #12 on this thread and it's already been hijacked!

All in fun @BrandiB. A sense of humor will stand you in good stead here ;). @Squishy is quite talented (me, not some much yet) and many of her postings are very useful and entertaining at the same time :)

Ha ha @HellBird , don't sell yourself short, you claimed your gutter spot in style.lol Don't come over all innocent to the newbies, they'll soon find out soon enough anyway :D

If I get any deeper or darker I'll come out the other side, into the burning, heat filled, depravity ridden, halls of..........Australia!!!! And there shall I find the demoness that is @JackEb, and together we shall wreak unholy double entendres and debauched frivolity upon that land until we sink back through the earth again, until this holy ball upon which we travel through the void of space, becomes as Swiss Cheese, and the gutter dwellers shall have dominion over all !!!!! Bwah ha ha ha!!!!

Apologies @BrandiB sometimes people get a little carried away. I of course, as you can already tell, am the voice of reason, and have to come along and keep everyone on track  These guys will get into all sorts of trouble without me.

A little thread jacking is all part of the fun, but you can always bring it back to the topic in hand. BTW post up some pics of your experimenting (no trolls here, so no need to worry, we all start from the same place) add the ratios and pressure used, and we may be able to give more specific advice :)

Ha ha yourself, Squishy-dear. Never would I claim to be innocent to a fellow forum member, newbie or otherwise, without good reason. Like it really wasn't my fault. Such was not the case here in this thread lol I admit that I do occasionally poke the bear/kick a sleeping dragon/tug the tiger's tail as it were. Not wise to be sure (but it's fun  :malicious:). And where do you get off telling this poor girl that you're the voice of reason?! lollol Your postings have caused considerable damage to computers, phones, and sinuses all over the place with people spraying coffee all over their gear and laps from mouths and nostrils.
Since you're seeking warmer climes, like Australia, I'll bring a shovel! I'm sure @JackEb will be delighted to see us! (MacD and Markjthomson will probably emigrate to Antartica)

Welcome aboard. I don’t struggle from cramp, but I do find my trigger finger almost goes numb because I’m pushing so hard. That’s my version of the death grip.

Lol. lollollol Looks like it's party time at yours @JackEb Jaxter!!!! The 'birds' are on the loose. Get that shovel ready @HellBird , looks like there's a bunch of poking and tugging to do ;). I draw the line at kicking sleeping dragons though. My rump is still recovering from last time - though the flames do eliminate the need to shave that particular area now :laugh:lol:laugh:
