I'm looking to make a fake patina and don't really know where to start?

So need something to add to automotive paint to make it crack like it is 80 years old.
Or does anyone know what the magic ingredient to Vreeble paint is? Maybe that would work.

I want to acchieve something like this...

So would it be something you add to the paint? Or spray over the top to make it do that?

You can buy a specialised crackle paint that will give you that effect, getting the worn effect is as simple as lightly rubbing/sanding the paint off. Check youtube for the crackle effect paints.

Not sure where they are but this is a similar product. just got to find one in the UK

I think what I am looking for is something to add to what ever colour paint I am spraying to give the effect of cracking.
Or something to spray over to give the cracking effect.

I'm not just looking to rub back the paint to give a patina look, I want to crack the paint.

The quickest way I know of to get this effect is to simply use a lacquer paint over a non cured enamel paint. Most of the time you will get that crackle finish ( its also what causes a lot of old paint jobs to crackle. as enamel primers were often used as a base for lacquer paints ) I have also heard of this being achived by applying a base coat, then "wetting" the area you want the effect and applying a top coat. Both methods will leave ridges and will require a liberal amount of clear to smooth it out. One last option is to simply airbrush the effect?

I saw this effect. These cracks are not smooth out, you can feel them with your fingers. The finish is usually matte clear. I've also been wondering how to achieve it lately.
