Sotar 20/20 issue

we do offer help, I can’t think of a single instance were help has been refused unless an intro has been done.
We offer assistance.... and ask for an intro so we can get to know them.
Yes all the info could be put in a signature/profile, but how many do the basics of a location in their profile? . Most don’t even bother with that. I often add the locale once they’ve divulged it in the posts.

I didn't actually suggest that anyone has been refused help unless they post an introduction but if they post a thread asking for filling the thread up with dragons and requests for an intro doesn't solve their problem.

There plenty of requests asking them to introduce themselves but why not ask them to edit and and update their profiles instead, I'm a member on a couple of model forums and when I logged for the very first time on each I was automatically redirected to my profile page and asked to take the time update it, I know I'm some kind of freak but it just makes sense to me, especially since both profile editing and posting introductions are totally optional on any forum at all.

Despite being the freak that I am, I still do understand the purpose of asking for an introduction but again since its optional ganging up on an individual to get one is bad tactics, if they don't supply enough info simply ask for it just as Robbie does, it might be that some new members don't wish to divulge too much of their details and that is their God given right.

I can tell you that there is absolutely nothing wrong with your brush. As a newbie, I know you are looking for something to be wrong, but there isn't.

Your test image shows paint that is too thick for the air pressure used. Vallejo is a pretty tricky paint right out of the bottle, and will work better when reduced- almost always. They also have a flow improver which helps greatly! Bubbles, or foam around the head pieces of a Badger airbrush are completely normal, and the brush will function fine this way.

No harm in posting your cute dragons but if someone is lookung for help just give them a little space first:)
Don't worry Malky, I am not but hurt :D I have more serious problems in my life then if I can post dragons. If I am lucky I will live for 40 more years. Probably last 10 years in pain. So I have 30 years to enjoy life to fullest. Thank god we have relatively good health system and I don't need to pay anything. It was fun till it lasted and I still have good laugh from time to time. :D

I have the sotar too and the first thing I do is thin the paint more than I do with any other brush. I usually run a lower air setting right off the bat also.
Flaring the nozzle is a common mistake. When setting the needle in the tip, I always use this method.
Using water or cleaner, I start with the needle back from the tip. Just pushing down for air, (do not pull the trigger back) you will get a spray. Now slowly and lightly, while using a twisting motion, move the needle into the tip until the spray stops. Tighten the needle chuck. Now test your spray by air on and pull back on the trigger and check how it sprays.
I usually do this every time I start a painting session because after I clean a brush at the end of the day, I keep my needle backed of when I am not going to use it for a bit....Ever since I have been doing this, I have not flared a tip and it also gets rid of this variable when running into trouble...Knowing that the brush works as it should, I can adjust the paint and air to get the result I want.
Every paint color and/or brand and even the type of day it is, will cause you to thin and set your air differently.
Going by the picture you have included, your paint is still too thick for the results you are after. If your paint is too thick, you need to pull back farther on the trigger and more air needed to get the paint to flow, which means a thicker line. I have thinned paint enough to the point when all I need is 5-10 psi to have a nice and constant paint flow.
Hope this helps

Being old school I look at an introduction like this.
On my first day of work I was escorted around to everyone department and introduced and I got to know each one of those people . That was 20+ years ago . Now when a new person is hired in no introduction are made, and we do not interact with each other due to no one know anyone else or what they specialize in.
So when one of those folks do happen into my office to ask a question the first question I ask them is their name and department. Why because I do like knowing what departments are seeking my help and who from that department it is asking.
Same with an introduction
But now if the majority of people on this forum wish us to no longer ask for a proper introduction then expect answers only given for the area of the world the person who is answering it to be from. Which may cause some folks to think we do not know or care about the issues or questions they are having.
But I for one do go look at every person profile to see where they are from, What equipment they have and how long they have been at it before trying to give the best answer I can .
Nothing against what you have said @Malky but I am sure you want to know the name of the new sheep in the shepherd's field LMAO
So I guess I should make a thread and ask everyone to vote on if we should ask for introduction after help has been given or just no longer care ?
What do you all think is it worth my time?

Meh, it is what it is. Intros are polite and sometimes helpful and I feel it helps to have a sense of knowing who a person is. I will give an auto painter vs a hairdresser vs a cpa vs a hairy brush artist answers in a different way.
It's a good opportunity to just welcome someone to generally participate, rather than just drop by for help and disappear. Which nice, but also not required.
Same time there is a point where it becomes nagging rather than asking and really works the opposite way it was intended to. Some first posts I can certainly see the person being like " ok, ok....damn, Geesh people" lol
One suggestion, maybe one reminder is probably all that is needed.

I don't think there is any need for a vote but I think it goes without saying that there is absolutley no need for six requests for an introduction spread for three threads from the same dude.

Without any introduction whatsoever I know that the poster is from Houston Texas, he owns at least a sotar 20/20 which he is having trouble with and he's probably into or wanting to paint warhammer gaming pieces, I also know that his first ever post back in 2013 got no replies whatsoever which might explain his not returning again until 2015/16, I asked a question on a drawing forum three years after making an introduction and didnt get a single reply, there were only two replies to my introduction on that forum both from mods, bearing in mind my profile was also fully updated after three weeks of checking in for answers I gave up altogether and have never returned to that forum.

This is the best airbrush forum on the net yet we only have 40 or so active members at any one time out of a total of 6000 registered members, we have members lurking in the background, some only using the forum as a free messaging service, so I often wonder why that is, I'm not foolish enough to think its because 5960 members were pissed at being asked for an intro, but a small number just bother coming back because if it.

My main point here was that a person's profile and signature is far easier to find than their introduction therefore, more important as far as knowing what help is appropriate, to show just what I mean, I joined this forum in March 2012 but I challenge anyone here including mods to go find my original introduction, like you Herb I considered it polite to make an introduction after reading advice in the forum rules section, but not everyone is the same as us and some just might not want to, my other point is that one suggestion per newby to make an introduction should suffice, if they don't do it after that then they clearly didn't want to and that should be respected, I did it, you did but if someone else doesn't I don't mind, they'll be treated equally to those who did regardless.

So go on everybody, go find my intro, forget a vote on whether or not people should introduce themselves, vote on kicking me out (again) instead:thumbsup:

No intro can also set up a situation where anyone answering has to presume you just picked up an airbrush 5 minutes ago and the closest thing you've done to it is finger painting when you were 5

Might not be. If not I'm guessing the original simply disappeared from the server or is not under the two names I would recognize.

If it still exists there's only about 30 intros from that time so if I read em all I could probably figure it out even if it is aanother name.

Ok my 2 Cents...
I can totally see everyone’s point here. I think the issue is that posting the “OAF Dragons” became a joke between members, which is great, it’s just that the New Members aren’t in on the joke.
Herb, Jackie, Mark etc asking if someone would care to make an intro is totally fine, but maybe best left to the Mods / Admin.
I know that everybody is grateful for the work they do and by everybody else asking it’s like we’re trying to help with the work load, but I can also see that it ends up with a new member possibly being Bombarded.
Suggesting a location and tools in the signature would also be cool.
