My latest painting of my niece did hit the bell.
Few of my work colleagues did ask if I could paint some for them, and one already have requested this commission.
I don't know if I did right thing, but when we went down to money subject, I told him to pay only if he likes the finished painting.
When he requested this commission, I had to be honest to my work mate, that I'm on learning curve and I can't be sure how the painting will go.
He did appreciate me being honest, and he said it's very fair play offer.
Anyway, after we've spent time discussing which photo, and other minor concerns,he did offer to pay in full when we meet - I refused, but it's lifted me up, as I took it for trusting in my skills, that I'll paint the sisters nicely.

    It's A3 canvas board.
I have outlined girls this morning, and later I did basing blocking.

We've agreed the background will be blurred, no river, no field of grass and any other features...
Because of their sweaters, I've decided to make the background pinkish/light bluish from left to right.
I think it'll nicely cope against dark blue sweater of the front girl, and then light blue will give nice contrast to the red sweater of the girl at the back ...

What you think about my choice please?

I bet it won't be as good looking as my latest portrait, because it's simply selfie took by mobile phone,it's lower resolution didn't help when I had to magnify it for painting purposes...
As you see the lighting is kind of flat all over the photo, now it's up to me to make it nicely, not as flat looking as it is originally.

I'm sorry for too long description, I feel it's good to let you know full story ;)
    Thank you.

When reading such things, one simple feeling appears. Feeling happy for someone else. It's just great when someone does what he loves to do and all that brings some material things into ones life also (I mean money).
If I'd need a portrait to order, I'd order it from you. If I couldn't do that myself:)

    Beautiful complement,I couldn't ask for more :)
    Thank you very much Vladimir.

I'm also attaching to the painting handwritten thanks given note.
I'm writing it with goose feather fountain pen, and sealing with the candle and the stamp - kind off old times letter ;)
I hope it does making the painted portrait even more personal?

Thank you for keen words Vladimir...

    It definitely does!
That's great what you do! I'll keep this in mind for time when I'll do my portraits. I thought on some original ways to sign the works and you giving some creative directions.

Do you give the back side of the canvas some layer of clear or smth to prevent the inks come inside the paint layers, I mean going through the canvas to the front? I think it may happen with the oils. Who knows, maybe. At least I'm going to give some clear layer even I plan to work with the urethanes.

You may try to attach something authentic to your painting as I do :)
I'm glad you like the idea :)
I'm painting on the canvas board, so even if I'd handwritten my message at the back, there wouldn't be possible for ink to get through the wood panel.
But my thanks given message is written on the paper card, and sent as an separate piece of card, attached freely to the back of the canvas board.
I hope I made it more clearly than before :)
    Thanks Vladimir :)

Yes, in the case of board work nothing would happen. It's very different story.

It’s great you’re gaining momentum! Anyone who sells an artwork to somebody who is not a family member is a legit artist. It’s right to take small steps and be modest with pricing. Don’t let the pressure of it weigh you down - it is supposed to be fun.

I spent much time and money chasing for potential customers and selling - all I've earned was frustration.
I've learnt, that the more I were chasing the more I were losing of the arts creations.
The time will come itself or not at all, what the matter :)
Now I'm wiser, I'm painting for myself,or to please relatives, if I do commission I will do it not to be rich, but to make other people appreciated having the art.
This is why I didn't ask for money.
If he pays, and won't be happy with the outcome, will it make me happy having his money?
I can afford to be like this, because I'm not living for my arts.
It probably would be different,if the arts were about to pay my bills :)
    Thank you Franc :)

For what it’s worth in my opinion I think you did the right thing by having an honest conversation with the customer. And it’s great to see you start so strongly too. I’m looking forward to seeing how this piece progresses.

    Thank you Simon!
I have chasing the money for so long, lol ;)
I'm not willing to any longer :)
It's better be honest and charge nothing if the things go wrong, rather than make false promises and get money straight away...
    Cheers for encouragement :)

    woo hooo Arthur
This is a lovely story my friend. I'm so so very pleased for you as I know the frustrations you have gone through. You are very talented and I'm under no illusion that you will give this piece 200% but art is very different when you are on a commission you will find you'll put yourself under extreme pressure, as many have said enjoy the journey relax and paint from the heart and don't let your head get in the way.

    Thank you James!
    Yeah, commission's stress hahahaaa ;)
The challenge is great, as I'm not experienced regarding oils.
Those are Thai sisters, a bit darker flesh tone is needed, I need to focus on that thing.
The background is bothering me as well.
But this is what I wished for, isn't it?
    Commissions WORLD ;)
    Thanks!

I'm just way too busy driving buses LOL ;)
    Some progress has been done,though.
Adding layers, basing blocking and working on the flesh tones continuously :)
The customers is positive so far!
    Thank you for watching.
