I just got on eBay an allegedly new and unused set of Iwata Ninja Jet compressor and Eclipse HP-CS brush for $175 + shipping. I think I got a decent deal. Thoughts? I already have an Iwata HP-SBS and a big chungus Silentaire DR-150 but I've been hankering for a gravity fed eclipse, and I think the tiny compressor is handy to have around. I think I came out ahead on the brush alone, to be honest, but I'd like to hear you takes on this.
Hello Bijou, long time no see. Hope you are well. I think its a good deal even if its lightly used. The airbrush cant be far off that price in the US so basically a free compressor. I know of the ninja jet but haven't a clue what they are like to use. Looking at them I think they will be quite low pressure machines but they must work or Iwata/Madea wouldn't sell them. A quick google says it runs from 0 - 18psi so you may have to thin your paints but it will work. Ok for a backup. lee
It looks like it's quite an old set that has been languishing for a decade or two in the back of a closet. Listing photo: My HP-SBS has different packaging, but this one feels very vintage. The choice of type and that swoosh feels very 2000's to me. I hope it's not a fake, . Listing says new, but I'm assuming it's been used a couple of times, put away, forgotten about, and recently rediscovered. Yeah, those tankless compressors are not very strong, but I think it'll be fine for paints like Createx Wicked Illustration that are milled very finely and can be thinned a lot. It's just gonna be a portable unit, to go to my friend's house to help paint cosplay props, maybe even loan it to her. I'd rather she learn on some nice Iwata gear, than on cheap Amazon specials.
I did an eBay sold items search. You do seem to have found a good deal for what you got. Most similar listing were $225-250ish. I'm not sure what type and swoosh you are talking about. If it is the Eclipse box that is the box that predates the current one with the stars. I do not know when the change was made though. I keep a small compressor beside my bench. I use it to test brushes and hoses when I get them in. Mine goes up to 40psi so it's a good indicator if a hose leaks.
If you would, please post a pic of the airbrush BijouPyramidette. The same side that shows on the box.
While fakes are an issue on eBay (and other similar sites), the HP-CS looks legit. I have several old boxes for Eclipse airbrushes I've purchased over the years and they look identical to the one in your picture. The Eclipse can currently be found somewhere between the 100 to 150 dollar range in the U.S., so that was a smoking deal too!
Absolutely! As far as I can tell, it's legit. There was the smallest hint of paint on the needle, but other than that it's pristine. It was clearly well cared for. The compressor also looks good, except the handle got a bit bent in shipping and is now tipped in a surprisingly ergonomic angle. Regarding the airbrush, it has the Iwata compression fit nozzle, and I don't think that shows up in Chinese fakes very often, does it? Even the real deal Iwata Neos have the screw-in nozzles.
Thank you for the pics Bijou. It should be legit. The reason I asked for the pic was to see if there were two letters after Japan on the brush. It looks to have UC. This should mean the brush was made in March of 2017 I believe.
That is correct, and it goes with the date on the compressor, which is also early 2017. This set is younger than I thought, I guess Iwata's packaging change is fairly recent. My little airbrush collection is getting quite nice
Cool. So is mine. And I do think the new box with the stars is relatively new. It is the most prevalent box on eBay now, probably for that reason.
almost all of my airbrushes came with that box pictured, they were all pre 2018. everything looks legit, good score
so far eBay has been quite good to me. I got a number of things off there that were art related, including a Artograph Super Prism projector for $75 which still works impeccably well.
