    Hello everybody.

Has anyone heard of or used vintage X-acto 8010 side feed airbrush?

I came across this toy-like plastic body airbrush on EBay and for some bizarre reason couldn’t stop myself from buying it. I paid $20 or less I guess. It was ‘brand new’ but boy it was stored in some attic or what, the box was in bad shape and the hose was sticky. I have noticed this stickyness on some very old plastics/rubbers, for they begin to weep oils as they age.

I was curious to try it out and post the photos here but forgot it in my office.

    Thanks.

I’ve never heard of that one before. Interesting to see it though.

I’ve never heard of it. And the weird thing is that when I tried to do some googling the only picture I could find is the one you posted.
The one thing that has me thinking is, where does the paint go?? It doesn’t look like a top or side feed.

I seem to remember these from back in the day. They were a hobby type item that never really got any traction. I used to see them hanging on a rack in the hobby shop. Never used one, though, and it has been an age since I saw one.

Yes, the instructions are type written too so must be very old. I know my dollars are in a pit but I wanted to see if this simple and rather crude design actually works. Anyway, I will post the pictures today.

Actually it is a side feed, and believe it or not, a double action airbrush.

hmmm, I just found another one on Ebay, and bought it for just about what you got that one for. New, unused, in the box....

I was unable to take out the trigger and air valve assembly.

    Little update...

So I bought a 1/4 inch coupler to attach this airbrush to my compressor and did very quick and dirty scribblings using fountain pen ink. Attached herewith is the image. To be honest with you its performance exceeded my expectations. With little practice it can be used to pull pretty decent lines. I also found the trigger control very satisfactory though the entire assembly is very light and composed of mainly plastic. There was some leakage of ink at the point where cup was attached to the main body but I guess I can take care of it.

Dave, you ordered one, you got it? and have you given it a try yet?

    Thanks everybody.

I did buy one, and it has arrived. I have not had a chance to pull it out of the original packaging, and play with it. I will get around to it in the next couple of weeks.
