Because my wife paints, i have looked pretty extensively into Gesso for her canvases (recycled) and there are a bunch of YouTube videos that show you how to make your own. I will caution you that the savings to make your own is about 10-15% which isn't really worth it to me. The ingredients you need to buy are only really cost effective in bulk which means you will lay out more money initially. If you need it in small quantities, you may wanna look into that. The ingredients are pretty straight-forward and simple.
To darn expensive here in Australia. The average price I've seen for 1 Litre opaque gesso is around $40 (32€ /£23)
If anyone in Australia know of a suitable alternative I'm all ears. I found an aerosol high build primer but it doesn't come in white. The only place I found for clay board is selling 5" x 7" (paintpal size) $19 a pack of 3 plus postage.
There has to be something out there!!
